Western Australia and Wildflowers August 2018

Red earth and white-barked eucalypts; sandstone gorges and remote coastlines; wildflowers and wildlife and an abundance of national parks.   Travel north from Perth along the Coral Coast. First stop is the Nambung National Park, home to the Pinnacles desert and limestone pillars rising six metres from the golden sands. Then to Kalbarri National Park where the Murchison River carves a series of dramatic sandstone gorges.  Based at Monkey Mia, spot the dolphins and cruise at Shark Bay, one of the world’s greatest wilderness treasures and home to around 26 species of endangered mammals including dugongs. Visit another highlight – the stromatolites, the oldest living fossils on earth. At Ningaloo reef, swim with the whale sharks if you choose.  Overnight at the Karijini National Park where the ever-changing light highlights the intriguing geological features of the park. Before coming home, you may want to add on a Margaret River wine and gourmet food tour or board the Indian Pacific Train from Perth to Sydney.
