Nothing prepares you for your first sight of Antarctica’s immense, frozen beauty. As you stand surrounded by looming glaciers and icebergs the size of floating cathedrals, Antarctica will fill you with wonder. Perhaps the most surprising part of Antarctica is the silence. It's a stillness that's broken every so often by the locals – the wildlife. Here, nature is king and we are mere observers.

On this tour you will cruise in comfort on a new, specially-designed polar expedition ship. For five magical days you will explore the frozen continent, gliding between icebergs and spotting penguins, seals and whales. You may even get the chance to go kayaking among the icebergs.

There will be many opportunities to go ashore with specialist guides on the Antarctic Peninsula and deserted Antarctic islands. You will come across countless penguin colonies, and cruise in zodiacs to get close to icebergs and the dramatic ever-changing landscapes. Back on board experienced lecturers will share their in-depth knowledge of the biology, history and geology of the area.

December is a great month to visit as there are longer daylight hours and the breakup of the ice allows further exploration. December also marks the arrival of humpback whales. Penguin rookeries are at full capacity and penguin chicks begin to hatch.

You will also spend time in Argentina’s capital Buenos Aires, and Ushuaia, the world’s southernmost city. There is an optional pre-tour extension in Santiago, Chile, for you to explore Chile's capital, the rich agricultural and wine-making lands of the Aconcagua Valley and the funky, gritty port town of Valparaiso.
