April 2020

Would you like to gain an intimate understanding of Japan’s rich culture, vibrant art scene, and intriguing architecture?  This out of the ordinary tour introduces you to Japan’s Seto Inland Sea, a serene body of water dotted with an archipelago of islands.  The sea’s coastal periphery is decorated with clusters of elegant cities, peaceful shrines, imposing castles, showcase gardens, and stunning movie locations.  You will meet local artists and craftsmen and visit art and architectural sites that have stimulated the region’s revival.  Many of Japan’s best artists, movie makers, sculptors, and architects are active on these islands and you will see how their work adds vitality to their communities.  A day on Naoshima and visits to Miyajima’s ancient shrine and Hiroshima’s Peace Park are tour highlights.  You will finish with a few nights in Tokyo.  Traditional accommodation and regional cuisine add to this in-depth cultural experience.

Namibia & Botswana
June 2020

Landscapes of outstanding beauty and some of the continent’s greatest concentration and diversity of wildlife make this tour through Namibia and Botswana an unforgettable journey!  Namibia houses the world’s driest eco-system on earth – the Namib Desert, granted World Heritage status in 2013. At Sossusvlei, you visit the sculptural sand dunes where the shapes shift with the wind and the colours alter with the light. Stay at Etosha, where nearly 150 mammal species can be found and spend time at the water holes which exert a magnetic pull on the big game herds. Flying by small plane into the Okavango gives a bird’s eye-view of this fan shaped inland delta with its mosaic of channels and islands. Get up close and personal with the wildlife at Moremi Crossing and Chobe.  Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe is also included.  We have taken this tour many times and it has become a favourite.

Viva la Cuba
November 2020

Colourful, vibrant, and exuberant – Cuba is a pure delight to the senses.  Pastel-coloured Spanish colonial buildings line the narrow-cobbled streets in Havana’s old town.  The town squares are alive with the rhythmic beats of salsa and jazz music, popularised by the famous Buena Vista Social Club.  Its culture is an eclectic mix of African and Spanish heritage.  Its political ideology and compelling revolutionary history lends an aura of mystery.  60,000 classic cars from the1950s coolly cruise the streets signifying a nation that has been trapped in a time warp.  With the embargo lifted, now is the time to visit before the Old Cuba is gone.  Walk back in time to a living museum in Trinidad.  Head into rural Cuba and stay in Casa Particulares, licensed private homes offering B&B accommodation. Interact with your welcoming hosts and find out what makes this place such an undeniably alluring country.
