Leave behind beaches and barbecues and instead travel in style in a luxurious train in pursuit of the magnificent northern lights. Stay in two of Russia’s most majestic cities, Moscow and St Petersburg and enjoy five star, centrally-located accommodation. While there you will revel in the lively atmosphere of Christmas markets and gaze in wonder at the snow-covered palaces and monuments. Thanks to the Orthodox calendar you will have a second Christmas on 07 January, and enjoy a gala dinner and entertainment for a New Year’s Eve you won’t forget. On the train you will travel to remote and charming communities deep within the Russian and Norwegian Arctic, and spend two nights in Kirkenes where you may choose to stay in a snow hotel. There will be stimulating on-board talks and fully guided off-train excursions. A once in a lifetime Christmas holiday!
Your Tour Manager is John Matheson, a Director of Calder & Lawson Tours. He has travelled extensively and is delighted to be returning to Russia, with its rich and colourful history. He has always loved the magic associated with train journeys, especially on the luxurious Golden Eagle which he travelled the Trans-Siberian route on a few years go. The Arctic in winter is a once in a life time experience and the quest for the Northern Lights is a very exciting prospect. John will ensure that your tour goes according to plan and will sort out any unforeseen difficulties that can happen when travelling in Russia!
