Our recent sold-out tour to Egypt and Jordan was a real success. In Cairo the Pyramids and Sphinx wowed us and our lucky group got a sneak peek inside the new, yet to be opened, Grand Egyptian Museum.
From Cairo we spent an evening in the coastal city of Alexandria visiting ancient catacombs and the amazing library and paying tribute to fallen soldiers (including many kiwis) at El Alamein.
Every day brought more discoveries as we explored open air temples of Luxor, tombs at the Valley of the Kings and learned ancient techniques at the fascinating mummification museum. Four nights on a rivership on the Nile was followed by three incredible nights at the Old Cataract Aswan. This was where Agatha Christie wrote ‘Death on the Nile’ and several of the group said it was the best hotel they have ever stayed in!
Our Egypt and Jordan tour finished on a high note with a day at the incomparable Rose City of Petra, a jeep safari through Wadi Rum, stomping ground of Lawrence of Arabia, and finally a float in the Dead Sea.
Critical to the success of our tour was our local Egyptologist who travelled with the group throughout Egypt and brought history to life with his knowledge and enthusiasm and made for a rich and rewarding experience.
If you missed out this year or Egypt is on your bucket list, we will be repeating this tour in November 2024. Email us at info@calderandlawsontours.co.nz to get your name on the waiting list.
