News from the road – E-Bike the Remutaka Cycle Trail

A happy group completed nearly a week’s cycling in Wellington and the Wairarapa recently, enjoying stunning views of Wellington harbour from the base of Pencarrow lighthouse.  Andrew Matheson led the group of e-bikers on a tour of cycle paths and country roads to explore some highlights of the region.

Even those who had lived in Wellington were amazed by the secret pockets reached on the Hutt River trail during the first day’s riding.  The next day e-bikes made easy work of crossing the Remutaka range, following the path of the old railway line that for 80 years connected Wellington with the Wairarapa.

Three nights in Martinborough allowed for relaxed exploration of some of the treats the area offers: olive oil, hand-made chocolates, excellent food and of course fine wines.  A trip to the southern coast unveiled the spectacular scenery of this remote corner of the North Island.

There must be something about a Calder & Lawson tour as everyone in the group had travelled with us before, and some are already booked to do so again.  We will offer the Wellington and Wairarapa by e-bike tour again, so watch out for details in a future newsletter.
