Egypt and the Pyramids – a Little Different to Dunedin!

Arriving in Cairo to the chaos of 7 million people running about their business in a city smaller than Dunedin hits you like a ton of bricks and lets you know that you are not in Kansas anymore Toto. Not quite the images you had in your head of this ancient land – where are the camels, the palm trees and the pyramids? Such is the contrasting nature of an adventure tour to this amazing mystical region.

Then we arrive at our hotel, get to our room, pull back the curtains and there they are. Right there outside our window, the great pyramids of Egypt. All the images we had seen in books and in movies had come to life and were right there in front of us. We had to pinch ourselves just to make sure we weren’t dreaming, quickly take out the camera, and capture the moment with a self timed photograph. I’ve never had such a huge smile on my face and I don’t think it came off until I was on the plane back to New Zealand.
